What Is A Cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of text which is sent to your browser by a website you visit. It can only be read by the website that gave it to you to remember information about the preferences you set previously. This makes your visit to that website a better experience for you, without you having to start over and set all your preferences again.
Cookies can also help improve that experience further by providing useful information back to the website. We use Google Analytics to do this.
Cookies are referred to as session cookies or persistent cookies, depending on how long they are used. Session Cookies only last for your online session and disappear from your computer or device when you close your browser. Persistent Cookies stay on your computer or device after the browser has been closed and last for the period of time specified in the cookie. Persistent cookies are activated each time you visit the site where the cookie was generated.
A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any personal information about you.
What Cookies Do We Use?
Google Analytics Persistent Cookies
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google to report on website usage. The main cookie used by Google Analytics is the ‘__ga’ cookie which is activated each time you use the TreatOut web app, expiring after 2 years. There are 5 types:
- __utma
- __utmc
- __utmz
- __utmt
- __utmb
Why do we use Google Analytics?
It helps us to:
- count visits and traffic sources
- identify which pages are the most and least popular
- see how visitors move through the app.
What information is collected by Google Analytics?
Google Analytics collects information which tells us:
- the total time a user spends on our app
- the time a user spends on each page and in what order those pages were visited
- what internal links were clicked by a user
- the geographic location of a user
- what browser and operating system are being used by a user
- a user’s screen size and whether Flash or Java is installed
- the referring site.
How Do We Receive This Information From Google Analytics?
All the information is gathered together and viewed in a summary format. This information is anonymous and does not collect any of your personal data. We use this information for statistical analysis to measure and improve the performance of the TreatOut app and provide you with a better overall experience.
Third Party Cookies
We may from time to time embed video content from other website such as YouTube. Pages with embedded content may set their own cookies from these websites.
